Myrick “Freeze” Guillory and the Queen Ida Zydeco Band is at the forefront of Zydeco’s next generation. Freeze’s repertoire includes the Cajun waltzes, peppery two steps and bluesy ballads that are the hallmark of Zydeco. Freeze’s famous mother, Queen Ida, came to California shortly after World War II as part of a wave of Louisiana immigrants. They brought Zydeco music along with them, and Freeze is carrying on the tradition in grand style. Freeze played his first public shows with the Queen Ida band in the 1970’s, and became a seasoned touring artist as a featured special guest with Ida’s band. He has been touring on his own, across the US and Europe for the last nine years.
